Intense Heatwave Affects Different Countries

(MENAFN) An unprecedented heatwave has gripped vast regions of the Mediterranean, Europe, Asia, the United States, and the Middle East, with meteorologists cautioning that the sweltering conditions are expected to linger for several more days.

The searing temperatures, which began to intensify in early June, have resurfaced in full force, especially across the Mediterranean basin and portions of Europe, as reported by a news agency.

In Türkiye, Thursday brought exceptionally high temperatures, ranging from 6 to 12 degrees Celsius (10.8 to 21.6 degrees Fahrenheit) above typical seasonal levels.

The most extreme reading was recorded in Silopi, a district in the eastern province of Sirnak, where the mercury soared to 50.5°C (122.9°F)—a new peak. Other areas also saw dangerously elevated temperatures, including 49.6°C (121.3°F) in Kiziltepe, 49.4°C (120.9°F) in Cizre, and 49.3°C (120.7°F) in Nusaybin.

Altogether, six meteorological stations across the country reported temperatures above 49°C (120.2°F).

Greece also faced scorching conditions, with the Skala region on the Peloponnese Peninsula reaching 46°C (114.8°F).

Meanwhile, the town of Lindos, situated on Rhodes Island, experienced a historic high of 43.6°C (110.5°F).

In nearby Albania, temperatures in the coastal city of Vlore hit 42.4°C (108.3°F), while in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital, Sarajevo, thermometers registered a sweltering 39°C (102.2°F).

Further north in Scandinavia, Finland’s Meteorological Institute announced a remarkable climate anomaly: parts of the country recorded temperatures of 30°C (86°F) or above for 14 straight days—an occurrence never before documented since measurements began in 1961.

In Sweden, several regions experienced daytime highs of 30°C alongside nighttime lows remaining around 23°C (73.4°F), reflecting the heatwave’s persistent grip even after sunset.
